Oct 30 05: get cultural!

I’ve promised a zillion people that I’d post this, and at last here it is: the performance schedule for the Juilliard Choral Union, of which Paul and I are longtime members.

December 11
MAHLER: Symphony No. 3
James Conlon, conductor
Carnegie Hall
This is for women’s voices only, so we won’t be performing. Nonetheless, it should be a good show.

February 3
SCHOENFELD: Channah (Premiere)
Anne Manson, conductor
Juilliard Theatre
The Old Testament story of Hannah, told in a modern gospel style. Part of the annual Focus! Festival.

April 6
ORFF: Carmina Burana
VARIOUS: Cinema Serenades (Premiere)
Judith Clurman, conductor
Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center
The Orff will be the two-piano version, rather than the full orchestral one, but still: always a gas. The other piece is a suite of short(ish) choral works by composers known for their film scores, including Marvin Hamlisch, Howard Shore, Laura Karpman, John Williams, and Marc Shaiman.

Additionally, we may take part in performing four selections from Handel with Trevor Pinnock in February; we may also be singing for the Mark Morris Dance Troupe as they dance to Vivaldi’s “Gloria” at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in early March. More details on those to follow as necessary.

If you’re in the area and are into this kinda stuff, we’d love to see you there.

Oct 20 05: archewhoozis

I realized this morning that the novel is going to include the story of the creation of the world as told by the giant (and/or colossal and/or Humboldt) squid.

This excites me.

Oct 6 05: Birth Day, part 2

Nathan David. That’s the name of my new nephew.

Can’t wait to meet him tomorrow. His big sister is finally asleep, and I should be as well, so that’s all for now.

Birth Day

Woo hoo! My sister is in labor! About 4 weeks early, but we’ve been instructed not to worry! We’re on our way out to Long Island to look after my niece until her mommy and daddy come home. Yippeee!
