Today’s thought—and yes, you only get the one, so make the best of it—came in via the discussion list for Studio Foglio’s sublime Girl Genius. It doesn’t have much to do with Girl Genius at all, but I love it. So here it is, for your edification:
The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.—James Nicoll
